Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the rabies surveillance system at UPT Puskesmas Kampung Baru, Medan, which is crucial for controlling zoonotic diseases that remain a major issue in developing countries. Using a qualitative approach and literature review, the results indicate that routine reporting and a rapid response within 24 hours support the system's effectiveness. However, low community awareness and resistance to follow-up examinations hinder optimal rabies control. In conclusion, the success of rabies control heavily depends on community empowerment and increased participation at the primary healthcare level.
